ADOPTION PLANNING

Adoption is a special process in which you make all the choices and decisions.  Catholic Social Services offers open adoption services.  Psychologist Randolph Severson, sets the experience of open adoption in the context of:

“…Courage, compassion, and common sense. It takes courage to face uncertainty, compassion to take the other’s interests into account, and common sense to make it workably flexible. When attitudes are positive and birthfamilies and adoptive families work cooperatively and sacrificially on behalf of children, everyone benefits. Where the old secret system of adoption attempted to erase the past, the open approach seeks to preserve and honor it.”

  • You choose your child’s adoptive parents from among many trained families seeking to adopt.
  • You can build a lasting, loving relationship with the adoptive parents, staying in contact with your child. Through open adoptions, children grow up understanding the love and care that surrounds their adoption.
  • You, along with the adoptive family and the help of a social worker decide how to build a life-long relationship so your child can grow up feeling loved and secure.

“Meeting the adoptive couple made my decision so much easier.  Since the birth and placement of my baby, our relationship has grown.  Life is working out the way I want. I’m in college, just bought a car and learning to be on my own.” ~ Birthmother

  • We will maintain supportive contact with you following the birth of your baby and for as long as you need us.
  • We will help walk you through your tough decisions.
  • We will help facilitate the open adoption relationship as it develops and grows.

“Catholic Social Services provided the resources and the people to answer my questions and concerns with the adoption process.  Without them, I would never have been able to make the biggest decision of my life. I am so thankful for such wonderful and caring people at CSSM.”  ~ Cathleen
